There is only one ‘true’ independent ceiling system. It is only supported from the side walls with no connection with the original ceiling. They are constructed from timber joists supported from the walls using standard joist hangers off wall plates. The insulation is then installed between the joists, and 2 layers of plasterboard are added to the underside. Get a structural engineer to check what size of joists are required for your project, as the bigger the room then the larger the joist you will need.
No specific products are required here other than standard building materials such as insulation slab, timber joists and plasterboard.
