Road Traffic Noise Surveys
Road Traffic Noise surveys or ( PPG24 Surveys) are normally required during the planning application to build new dwellings or flats where there no none before. The point of the survey is to ascertain the level of risk there is in relation to noise from nearby roads or Motorways. A background noise survey is carried out so that the correct amount of sound insulation can be designed into the development.
There are generally 2 methods of assessing Road Traffic Noise:
i) Full 24 Hr Noise Survey
ii) Shortened survey method (Defra approved CRTN)
This latter shortened method only provides an approximation of the likely night time noise level and is only used where a full 24hr survey, can’t or is impractical to carry out
Noise levels on site are measured, to build up a decibel (dB) representation of what the noise levels are in the immediate vicinity. This is then rated as Categories A,B,C or D depending upon the level of noise measured and time period involved, these Categories are as shown in the table below:
Where the category C or D are indentified within the report, then additional noise control measures are required such as better glazing or acoustic trickle ventilation etc. Why not call us now to arrange a survey, we will ensure that the survey carried out sully complies with all relevant standards.
