At Sound Solution Consultants we’ve provided numerous renewable energy noise assessments in England, Wales and Scotland covering hydropower and wind energy.
The process involved in preparing a noise impact assessment for renewable energy follows a similar process regardless of the technology:
- Review of baseline environmental conditions at nearest noise-sensitive receivers from a site-based survey.
- Prediction of noise from proposed renewable source(s) (e.g. ISO 9613) using manufacturers or measured data of similar schemes.
- Assessment of impacts in accordance with applicable guidance.
- Review of commensurate mitigation measures to achieve compliance with Local Authority policy or guidance criteria.
We can produce complex computer modelling of proposed renewable energy developments as to graphically illustrate sound propagation in the environment. We use IMMI noise modelling and mapping software in our Environmental Noise Modelling.
For the assessment of wind turbines, we work in accordance with the Institute of Acoustics Good Practice Guide on Wind Turbine Noise (2014).
